Symptoms include frequent urination in small amounts, sometimes with vocalisation or urinating outside the litter tray, uncleanliness, bloody urine and an increased \”urge to clean\” the genitals. The balanced mineral ratio in this food brings the pH value of the urine into the slightly acidic range. This uric acidifying property of the food can help to prevent the formation of new struvite.

In the case of renal insufficiency, the nephrons of the kidney are irreversibly damaged, and the still intact nephrons have to take over the function. In order to relieve this, it is important to provide the body with low but very high-quality protein,and a low phosphorus content is also essential.
For this reason, the protein and phosphorus content of Smilla Veterinary Diet Renal has been reduced. However, the animal protein sources contained are sufficient to fulfil the protein requirement. This food also contains easy to digest potatoes as a source of carbohydrates.
